Kayaking is not only a summer sport. One can paddle in wintry conditions as long as the the water is in liquid form! Winter conditions bring a wholly new dimension to kayaking. Come and try out kayaking in wintry conditions in Puumala! During the course we will dive into the wonders and challenges of winter kayaking, But always, safety first!
You can sign up for the course if you have some kayaking previous experience and are capable of the basic kayaking maneuvers: efficient forward paddling technique, you are able to paddle atleast 5 km and are able to maneuver/control the kayak around obstacles .
The course will be instructed by winter-paddlers and guides Juho Paaso and Sanna Korhonen.
The first course will start on the 22th of march, friday at 18:00 hrs, with a safety lecture. On saturday and sunday we will practice the required skills on the water and ice. At the end of the course those who wish can try the cold water rescue techniques. The course will end on sunday, 24.03 approximately at 15:00.
The second course 29th of March to 31st of March (Friday – Sunday)
During the course you will learn the required skills, safety practices as well as the proper equipment in theory as well as in practice.
We will send a more throught schedule and equipment list to those who sign up.

INCLUDED:
- Safety lecture and instruction thru the course.
- Proper paddling equipment for winter paddling (kayak, paddle, PFD, Drysuit + shoes and drybags)
- Transportation of equipment.
- Organizers liability insurance
Price IF you bring your own equipment: 280 €
(PLEASE NOTE! A functioning drysuit is compulsory !! ) You may rent just a drysuit and paddling shoes for the duration of the course for 60€.
Accomodation
If you need accomodation for the duration of the course, a dormitory styled accomodation is arranged at the nice cottages by Lake Saimaa in 2 person rooms. The cost of the accomodaton for this time is 95€/person/2 nights (includes: linen, sauna and the use of the kitchen)
The winterpaddling course group size in max 10 persons, so sign up quickly! The course will be held, if a minimum of 6 participants sign up.
Please note: we are unable to insure the participants or their personal property, so please make sure your insurance policy is up-todate and has sufficient coverage.
